Easy Green Salad Recipe – Quick And Easy

I am going to share my all time go to green salad recipe with basic salad dressing in this article.

It is full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. It keeps you full as well as very less on calories.

Let’s start with the ingredients we require for this green salad:

Lettuce. (You can take any lettuce)

Spinach leaves (By the way spinach is also counted in lettuce category)

Lola Rossa leaves (Red head lettuce)

Cucumber

1 small onion (Optional) (You can use spring onion instead)

A bowl full of cherry tomatoes Or 1 regular tomato

And a handful of any sprouts. I am taking alfalfa sprouts.

Alfalfa sprouts are rich in vitamin K, C, B1 and B2. Also, they are rich in proteins and fibre, which keeps us full for a long time.

They contain essential minerals such as copper, folate, magnesium, and manganese.

A cup of alfalfa sprouts contain very less calorie but provides us maximum nutritions.

For salad dressing we need;

  • Finely diced garlic
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Lemon juice
  • Honey
  • Chilly flakes
  • Salt and pepper

Method:

Take a big bowl and fill it with Icy chilled water.

Cut all the green leaves into bite sizes and place them into this icy chilled water!

This step will keep an instant freshness and crunchiness to green leaves! So don’t forget this step whenever you are making a green salad.

If you are adding an onion then cut the onion in thin slices like this and add them too in this chilled water.

Keep this bowl aside and meanwhile prepare your other ingredients.

Cut the cucumber into small pieces and place it in another bowl.

Cut the cherry tomatoes in halves.

You can substitute cherry tomatoes with normal tomatoes too. It’s just cherry tomatoes that gives a nice aesthetic look to our salad.

Take a small bowl full of sprouts and submerge them into a bowl full of chilled water.

I am also going to add some crunchy pieces of cottage cheese also known as paneer in this salad to give it a nice crunchy taste and also to add some proteins into my meal. If you wish you can skip this part.

So, for this, we will need a slab of fresh cottage cheese or paneer.

Cut it into small long pieces.

Take a bit of olive oil into a nonstick pan and add these pieces. Stir fry them until these cottage cheese pieces turn brownish.

And take them out on a plate.

Now, let’s make our salad dressing,

This is a very simple and quick method.

  • Take a small glass bottle with a lid. (because it is easier to just shut the bottle and shake it vigorously so that our salad dressing can mix perfectly). You can also take a glass bowl and whisk all the ingredients with a whisker!
  • Let first me tell you the basic ratio of ingredients which is;
  • 2 parts any oil (Olive oil, sesame oil, mustard oil, coconut oil, etc.)
  • 2 parts  any vinegar or lemon juice (White vinegar, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, etc.)
  • And 1 part sweetener (Honey, maple syrup, stevia, etc.)
  • Then you can add or subtract other ingredients as per your taste.

Method:

  • Add 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon (Or an entire lemon)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Half a tsp finely chopped garlic
  • 1 sachet or half a tsp of chilly flakes
  • Salt and pepper as per taste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

And shut the lid and shake it until all these ingredients mix properly.

Keep it aside and let’s start assembling our salad!

Take a huge salad bowl with a lid. (Why with a lid? I will tell you in some time)

First place the cucumber, cherry tomatoes, onions and towel-dried green leaves into this bowl.

Make sure you drain the water and towel dry these green leaves before adding them otherwise the salad will become watery.

Sprinkle the salad dressing over it.

Add the crunchy cottage cheese pieces.

Close the lid and shake the bowl until all ingredients are mixed properly.

Generally, everyone just mixes them using salad forks but this way salad dressing reaches each and every leaf of our salad which makes it Uber delicious!

In the end, sprinkle the sprouts over it and adjust the salt, pepper and another seasoning according to the taste.

This is it! Our delicious and nutritious green salad is ready!

Bon appetite!
