Quick DIY Aloe Vera Gel Body Lotion With Aloe Vera gel

Do you want to make your own body lotion at home?

Would you believe it if I tell you how quickly and easily you can make your own body lotion with your own preferred ingredients, and that too with all-natural ingredients?

In the making of any cream be it; face cream, hand cream, multipurpose cream, feet cream, eye cream, body lotion, cold cream etc., there are 2 main parts.

  • Oil part &
  • Water part

The quantity of these two parts decides the viscosity of our product and thus its purpose.

For example, body lotion requires more water part than the oil part while cold cream or face cream requires more oil part than the water part.

Now the basic nature of both these parts is that they don’t mix. In order to mix them properly and form a stable mixture, we need emulsifiers and thickeners.

There are many kinds of emulsifiers and thickeners available in the market. Just make sure to opt for organic options.

Okay, so let’s talk about the oil part first.

In the oil part, you can use any oil be it cold-pressed, refined, virgin or extra virgin oil versions. But the best one is the cold-pressed oils as they contain the maximum nutrients.

You can also mix butters such as shea, cocoa, mango, etc. to this oil part to make the final product creamier and thicker.

Now, Let’s talk about the water part.

In the water part, we can use normal distilled water, Aloe Vera gel, Herb infusions, flower infusions, hydrosols, herbal teas, etc.

To make this DIY aloe Vera body lotion we will need a few equipments handy such as;

  • A hand blender or Emerson blender
  • A double boiler set up or a microwave
  • A deep container or a Pyrex cup
  • Measuring cups and spoons and
  • An empty old body lotion container.

Method

First of all thoroughly clean all the equipment and make them completely dry.

To be extra careful, I sterilize all my equipment by spraying rubbing alcohol over them and letting them air dry before use.

If you wish you can also place them in sunlight for 15 minutes to naturally sterilize them.

First, let’s begin with melting our oil parts by double boiler method;

Take a stainless pot.

Add some water and switch on the flame.

Once the water comes to boiling place a heat resistant glass bowl over it.

Make sure it doesn’t touch the water level.

Now Add,

150 ml (1/2 cup + 2 tbsp) cold-pressed coconut oil / any of your preferred oil

60 ml (1/4 cup) Emulsifying wax

15 ml (1 tbsp) Stearic acid (Thickener)

And let them all melt completely. Occasionally keep stirring.

If you are using microwave then simply add these ingredients into a Pyrex cup or a microwave bowl and melt them completely.

Keep checking on every 30-second bursts.

Once melted switch off the flame and keep it aside to come to room temperature.

Meanwhile, in another glass container add;

1 cup of freshly extracted aloe Vera gel and

90 ml (1/4 cup + 2 tbsp) of warm water to it.

Stir well.

Now, start blending the water part and slowly add the oil part to it while continuously blending.

Keep blending for 3 to 4 minutes continuously and keep this mixture aside for a few hours to cool down completely.

In the end,

Add 1/8 tsp of preservative. I’m using Phenoxy Ethanol.

And 25 to 30 drops of your preferred essential oil for the fragrance.

Stir and mix well.

After 2-3 hours blend it one more time for a minute.

And our aloe Vera body lotion is ready.

Fill it in an empty old body lotion bottle and label it with the date.

If you want to exclude preservative from this recipe then make a small batch and place it in the refrigerator.
